Doug Dare has been running Dare Commercial Services for over thirty-nine years and has no plans of slowing down. He built his business from the ground up and, just like the flowers his business donates every year to the Battleship NJ Memorial and Museum, it took patience, tenacity, and constant attention in order for it to grow and blossom into the success that it is today.
Dare to Grow
Like a seed in the soil, Dare Commercial Services has grown from humble beginnings. While in high school, Doug grew his own nursery stock, which led to him getting a job at a local nursery. When customers purchased a tree from the nursery they would often ask Doug to help them plant it. Impressed by his work, these customers would then ask Doug to create a landscape design for them and to install it himself. It was here that Doug cut his teeth in landscaping and a love of all things gardening quickly took hold.
Dare to Never Quit
When I asked Doug what career he would have if he could do whatever he wanted, he told me with full sincerity, “I am doing it.” The old cliché goes that if you do something you love you’ll never work a day in your life. If we take this to be true, it becomes clear that Dare Commercial Services is more than just Doug’s job, Doug’s business. This is his passion, his love, his dream. And to live one’s dream is the ultimate measure of success.
